讲座内容:
Genome-wide SNP data can be used to infer relatedness between any two individuals, and the algorithms in software KING make it possible to identify all close relatives in a matter of minutes in biobank-level data that consist of 100,000s of samples. Chen’s paper on KING has been cited more than 700 times. Chen’s lab also developed a fast machine learning algorithm to identify the ancestry of any individual (e.g., European, African, East Asian etc.) in a biobank dataset by leveraging known ancestry in a reference dataset (e.g., the 1000 Genomes Project data). In addition, based upon the newly developed algorithms to identify Identical-By-Descent (IBD) segments and Run of Homozygosity (ROH), Chen and his lab developed novel methods to map disease genes, including linkage analysis, IBD mapping and homozygosity mapping methods. In this talk Dr. Chen will use type 1 diabetes (T1D) datasets to demonstrate the inference of relatedness, ancestry and IBD-based gene mapping.
